
About Tranzqual
Tranzqual is the Industry Training Organisation (ITO) responsible for setting world-class training standards for the commercial road transport, passenger services, warehousing and logistics, freight forwarding, ports and stevedoring industries.
What we do
We work with the truck, bus, courier, taxi, warehousing, logistics, ports and stevedoring industries to increase the skills and knowledge of their employees.
We ensure workers in our industries have the best opportunities to learn by setting training standards, developing training resources and supporting companies and trainees to achieve their training outcomes.
In addition to our training and qualification activities, Tranzqual has a role in presenting our industries as professional career path options for school leavers and mid-career changers.
More specifically we:
- develop world-class training standards and nationally recognised qualifications for our industries
- work with our industries to develop effective training resources and assessment materials
- work with course providers to deliver our qualifications
- work with assessors who assess trainees
- allocate subsidies for training and assessment
- help employers work out the best training options for their staff
- provide advice, assistance and expertise to create new training initiatives
- look to the future and identify our industries' skills and training needs
- market our industry sectors
- monitor the professionalism of Tranzqual's registered assessors and NZQA accredited training providers.
Our structure and locations
Tranzqual is lead and managed by our Chief Executive Officer, Wayne Smith. He reports to our Board of Directors. Richard Riley is the Chairman of Tranzqual's Board.
Our organisation is structured into four groups. Each Group Manager reports to the CEO. The groups are:
- Customer & Business Solutions
- Qualifications & Quality Systems
- Marketing & Research
- Corporate.
We have offices in Auckland, Tauranga, Palmerston North, Wellington, Kapiti and Christchurch, with our national office in Wellington.

Our newsletters
We produce two newsletters. Centreline is for assessors and training providers, Tranzqual Standard is for industry. Both are published quarterly.
