Interactive Heavy Vehicle Dynamics training tool launched

HVD3 is a state-of-the art, 3D interactive driving tool developed for the New Zealand road transport industry in conjunction with three dimensional visualisation experts, Urban Voyage.

The computer-based tool is designed to supplement driver training in heavy vehicle control in a low-cost, low-risk environment.

3D animation technology allows trainee drivers to be in the ‘driving seat’ of a heavy vehicle from their PC, before driving on the road.

The tool also allows industry trainers to demonstrate how loaded vehicles react in a range of scenarios such as cornering at roundabouts or in sudden stop situations in rigid, truck and trailer and semi trailer vehicle simulations. Load distribution, following distances and speed are brought into focus to consolidate learning and add knowledge that can be applied directly out on the road.  

There is also a free ride option that will aid memory retention by allowing trainees to manoeuvre the vehicle themselves.
