Why have new resources been developed?
Law changes for drivers came into effect in October 2007. Land Transport NZ now requires all training and assessments for driver licence classes and endorsements for Work time and Logbooks, Classes 2-5, P and V to use the new, approved study guides and assessment materials.
All candidates must be issued with the correct study guide for the course. The study guides becomes the property of the candidate.
As mandated by Land Transport NZ, the resources have been tested to ensure they are error free, reflect best practice and are user-friendly.
Have prices changed?
Yes, the prices have been kept to a minimum. By integrating the study guides and assessment material into the same documents and combining the licence classes, prices for the new resources are similar to the previous pricing.

For example, if you want to be a new bus driver or taxi driver undertaking your Class 2 license and Passenger endorsement, then the total cost of learning and assessment material will be $175. If later that same year you want to obtain your Class 4 licence, then you will already have the learning material and the cost of the assessment will be $12. This is in comparison to a previous total cost of $228. All prices will be available on the new order form from 21 June.
Can I buy individual Assessment Schedules?
Yes under special circumstances. The individual assessment schedules are for those candidates that are completing a qualification, rather than obtaining the unit standard for the purpose of licencing. Also for candidates who require a new assessment paper for the purposes of a resit assessment. The purchase of individual assessment schedules will be monitored for compliance against the Land Transport NZ requirements.
When was information on release 2 sent out?
Information relating to release 2 of the revised materials was directly mailed out in a letter in March; a letter in April; notified in the February and May Centrelines; the February and May Tranzqual Standard, as well as by direct mail postcard sent out during June 2008.
Why are the study guides and assessment materials now in one integrated document?
Following consultation with industry and the feedback we received from the first release of resources, we have combined Class 2 and 4 and Class 3 and 5 into two separate trainee packs. This has enabled us to consolidate information, reduce repetition and reduce price.
How to use the new study guides and assessment materials?
The new resources are colour coded for easy identification.

The assessment material is attached by a perforated section to the study guides, and must be detached before issuing to the candidate. The assessment material is then issued to the candidate by the assessor at the time of the assessment.
At the start of a course, each candidate must receive a new copy of the study guide to use during the course. The study guide becomes the property of the candidate and must be retained by them.
When will the new training kits be available and do trainers have to use them?
The new training kits are due for release from the 13th October.
From 1 September 2008, training plus assessment will form part of the approved courses for Classes 2-5, Passenger and Vehicle Recovery endorsement courses.
All Land Transport NZ approved course providers must use the appropriate training kit for the delivery of approved courses relating to Class 2, Class 5, Passenger Endorsement and Vehicle Recovery endorsement.
Can the old study guides and assessment materials still be used?
Any remaining stocks of the current material may be used up. There will be no exchange or credit for remaining stock.
What do I do if I have a problem ordering the material?
If you have problems regarding lost, late or misplaced orders call Bronwyn Millar on 0800 4QUALS (478257).
