DriverSafe – training for truck drivers

Driver Safe

DriverSafe training teaches truck drivers how to avoid out-of-cab injuries. Within the road transport industry there are a significant number of out-of-cab incidents each year and prevention is the key to driver safety.

DriverSafe is an introductory health and safety training programme for truck drivers. If you work in the New Zealand road transport industry, then DriverSafe is designed for you.

DriverSafe training ensures all drivers and staff are:

  • aware of their safety responsibilities when working in out-of-cab situations
  • better able to manage hazards around stationary vehicles.

Research shows that DriverSafe trained drivers demonstrate improved safety attitudes and behaviours. The companies they work for have also reported a reduced number of injuries since taking part in the programme.

Successful DriverSafe trainees gain credits on the National Qualifications Framework.

DriverSafe has been developed in partnership with ACC and the Road Transport Safer Industry Steering Group, with input from industry representatives. The programme was launched in 2004. Now in its fifth year, DriverSafe has proven to be a successful programme with many operators.
